The Drop Of The Ball

I really and truly have no clue where time goes.

It feels like just days ago my hubby was lugging in the large plastic tote boxes full of our Christmas treasures to be hung, placed and laid out all over the house in celebration of the holiday that was on its way.  The reality is that it was over 3 weeks ago that it was all taken out, but the time in between seemed to race by and as I was boxing it all up again yesterday, I was struck by the fact that another year has come and gone.

I was told that time is relative to our age…that the older you get, the faster it seems to fly.  Math, I was told…which is why I don’t get as Bina to Math is like My Kids Dirty Laundry to Laundry Baskets…they just don’t meet up.

You see:  When one is 4 years old, a year is an eternity because, based on the experience lived, it is one fourth of that life.  But when one is 40, a year doesn’t seem as long because many more have gone by and now it would take 10 years to equal what 1 year did to the 4 year old.  Did I lose you?   Quite simply: It is true that the older we get, the faster time passes.  (And yes, even those of us who are “still” only 19 get hit by the whiplash of time gone by….*sigh* I tried!)

So just days before 2010, I remember this time just a short year ago when geared up and excited for 2009’s journey. I remember waiting for the ball to drop on TV as I laid on my belly, journal and Bible spread out before me…excited and mentally ready to move forward with Him.  And now…here I sit, mentally packing it all away…ready to embrace the journey of 2010.

I pray that you have taken the time to do a mental inventory as you move into a new year ~ not so that you can have a list of “What I Am Going To Say I Am Going To Do’s” for January 1…but so you can have a ready, willing and uncluttered heart for what God has for you each moment of this new year.

Wishing you all a very happy New Year while looking up as always…

  1. Definitely makes sense. I've used that analogy myself. That must be why the years seem to be going 2 at a time now–and I'm only 25! :0)Glad to see you back. Happy New Year, Friend!

  2. "A ready, willing, and uncluttered heart" — such a great goal for the New Year.Your blog is new to me, but I love it! Come see me sometime. I'll be back to be inspired by your musings, Bina.

  3. I am feeling that time fly by too. It's crazy. But, I am looking up and looking with a new perspective too. 2009 wrung me through the wringer, but I know that it was all for the tremendous growth and knowledge that I now have about my God. He is love. Happy New Year Sabine. ❤

  4. "an uncluttered heart." I love that phrase–not let the sadness and hurt of years past poison the present. I'd never thought of it like that before, but it's so true. Blessings, Bina.
